The “Lars Larson Show: Criminal Alien of the Week Report” in the first full week of March 2024 has for your radio listeners and website followers a report on an allegedly impaired Mexican national involved in a traffic accident that took the life of a Washington State Patrol Trooper in the state of Washington.

Some background information, on Sunday, March 3, 2024 Lars Larson received a tip that a Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Christopher M. Gadd had been killed and the suspect named in the connection with the trooper’s death was Raul Benitez Santana. He requested the “Criminal Alien of the Week” reporter investigate the immigration status of Raul Benitez Santana.

Our Washington State Patrol trooper tragically lost in the line of duty this morning has been identified as Trooper Christopher M. Gadd, a 27-year-old dedicated father, husband, son, brother, and friend. His name was announced during a 1:30 p.m. press conference held in Marysville, which can be viewed here: https://youtube.com/live/-ZRiKbr8acs

Trooper Gadd was killed early this morning after being struck by a motorist on southbound Interstate 5 near 136th Street North in Marysville. He served two-and-a-half years with the WSP.

Trooper Gadd, 27, is survived by his wife, Cammryn, daughter Kaelyn, father WSP Trooper David Gadd, mother Gillian, sister, Jacqueline who currently serves as a trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and many other family members, friends and colleagues.

Trooper Gadd is the 33rd member of the WSP to die in the line of duty in the agency’s 103 years of service to this state.” – Washington State Patrol.

Since being arrested on Saturday, March 2, 2024 Raul Benitez Santana (Inmate Detail – Benitez Santana, Raul; (Subject Number: 2482335: Booking: 2024-00002807) has been incarcerated on Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault charges at the Snohomish County Jail in Everett, Washington.

Seeking information immigration status of Raul Benitez Santana on Monday, March 4, 2024 the “Criminal Alien of the Week Report” contacted via e-mail U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Public Affairs for the Northwest Region.

On Tuesday, March 5, 2024 an ICE Public Affairs Officer (PAO) responded via e-mail in the following way on the “Criminal Alien of the Week Report’s” request for a statement on Raul Benitez Santana:

“ERO Seattle placed an immigration charges related detainer with the Snohomish County Jail, WA, March 4, for Raul Benitez Santana, 33, a citizen of Mexico who is currently being held on to vehicular homicide.

As one of the operational directorates associated with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ERO Seattle lodges immigration detainers against noncitizens who have been arrested for criminal activity and taken into custody by state or local law enforcement. An immigration detainer is a request from ICE to state or local law enforcement agencies to notify ICE as early as possible before a removable noncitizen is released, allowing ERO to assume custody for possible removal to the subject’s home country in accordance with federal law.

ON BACKGROUND:

Raul Benitez Santana, 33, is a citizen of Mexico unlawfully present in the U.S. Santana entered the U.S. at an unknown date and time, without admission or parole by an immigration officer, and was first encountered by ERO Seattle Oct. 28, 2013, at the South Correctional Entity, Burien, WA, following his arrest for failure to appear for driving while license suspended.

Dates and courts of criminal conviction:

• May 3, 2013 – Lynnwood Municipal Court, driving while license suspended or revoked, $750.00 fine

• May 16, 2013 – Lynnwood Municipal Court, marijuana possession of 40 grams or less, sentenced to 90 days incarceration with 87 days suspended

• Oct. 6, 2014 – SeaTac Municipal Court, driving while license suspended or revoked, sentenced to 90 days incarceration with 85 days suspended

• May 24, 2019 – King County Superior Court, domestic violence assault, no sentencing information available
