What is the Washington Road Usage Charge, and is it better or worse for Washington state drivers?

Lars brings on Reema Griffith, the Executive Director of the Washington State Transportation Commission on Washington Road Usage Charge Pilot Project, to discuss the subject of changing the way taxes are being used for public roads.  Griffith explained that the state of Washington is looking into the future to prepare for when cars aren’t using as much gas so that the state has a source of revenue to support the costs of roads and bridges.  Washington’s plan is to “implement A road usage charge (RUC) system is a per-mile charge drivers would pay based on how many miles you drive, not how much gas you consume.”  Listen below for more.
