Voters Duped by Confusing Language on WA Care

It’s no secret that Washington’s WA Cares program is loaded with bureaucratic red tape and convoluted language designed to confuse voters. And guess what? It worked. The government wants you to think you’re choosing freely, but this wasn’t a fair fight.

In the latest interview with Elizabeth New from the Washington Policy Center, she pulls back the curtain on the deceptive tactics used to push Initiative 2124 through. The language in the ballot was so convoluted, it left voters scratching their heads—many of whom would’ve likely voted “No” if they understood the implications. Instead of making the program optional, as it should be, the government keeps it mandatory, locking people into a tax that’s just another way for the state to line its pockets.

And let’s not ignore the money. SEIU 775, which stands to gain from the system, dumped over $18 million into the campaign to ensure the program stays intact. But what about the real choice for the people? Did voters even get a fair chance to decide?

Elizabeth explains how the misleading ballot language made it nearly impossible for voters to fully grasp what they were supporting. With mandatory participation, it’s clear who’s pulling the strings, and it’s not you.

So, how can we trust a system that’s rigged from the start? Listen to the full interview with Elizabeth New to hear how your vote was hijacked and what we can do to fight back.
