The Lars Larson National Show covers the latest news across this great land of ours. Lars believes the only way to improve our community, state, and union is through honest discussion. Sometimes that means people (including Lars) will be made uncomfortable as ideas are challenged. But it's worth it! In fact, when compared to what our forefathers endured, it's a very small price to pay for a better tomorrow.

American Aspirations, By Allen Alley
American Aspirations By Allen Alley Chairman, Oregon Republican Party
You might think this is strange, coming from the Chairman of the Oregon Republican Party, but I'm completely fed up with politics and politicians.
I'm fed up with win-lose political standoffs in which our nation is the loser.
I'm fed up that the American can-do spirit is being replaced by "What can you do for me?" crony capitalism.
I'm fed up with liberal arts majors attempting to oversee multi-billion dollar engineering projects.
I'm fed up that unchecked government spending guarantees our children will be indentured servants to our national mortgage.
I'm fed up that that there is nothing healthy or caring about a medical system where costs spiral out of control.
I'm fed up that as the rest of the world sprints ahead of our educational system, our children will be relegated to the intellectual bench.
I'm fed up that while we argue about clean air, we allow Oregon's forests to go up in smoke.
I'm fed up with bureaucrats who play venture capitalist when they know nothing about ventures or capitalism.
I'm fed up with the focus on creating a sustainable environment for critters, when our toxic business environment is poisoning our workers.
I'm fed up that hard work with your hands is being replaced by hand-outs and hay bales are replaced with bail-outs.
I'm fed up with Occupy (fill in the blank), hatred, intolerance, name-calling, personal attacks, labels and self-dealing. And, I bet you are too.
The good news is that many of us are doing something about it. We are not victims, and we demand more from our politicians. We want change, but we are done with merely hoping for it.
We aspire to a greater Oregon and America. Hope is not enough. Hope is passive. It's what you do when you wait for someone else to solve your problem. Aspiration is active. Aspiration is the actionable realization of your dreams.
Our politicians are slowly, structurally, sucking aspiration out of our society. Without it, neither Oregon nor America can long survive. Aspiration drove Franklin, Lincoln, Ford, King, Earhart and Jobs. Aspiration built America.
The creativity and entrepreneurial spirit that made America great must now be applied to the biggest industry in our country, our government. We simply cannot afford to look at government as an inevitable overhead expense, a burden placed on the economy. We need government leadership that aspires to be efficient and accountable. A government that cherishes every dollar extracted from citizens, and delivers the best possible value at the lowest possible cost.
To do this, we need people who are not steeped in political dogma or beholden to special interests. We need people who have been responsible for employees, answered to shareholders and delighted customers. Imagine a government that delighted citizens! I am fed up with politics today, but my aspiration is that the Oregon Republican Party, the party of Mark Hatfield and Vic Atiyeh, will make Oregonians once again proud of Oregon politics.
We are making progress. Our candidates have real ideas and the experience to back them up. We are striving to unify working families who care about their jobs today and careers for their children tomorrow. We are collaborating with unlikely partners like National Public Broadcasting to bring the eyes and ears of the world to Oregon for a Republican Presidential Debate next March.
America is the greatest nation on earth because we are an immigrant nation - literally built on a foundation of dreams and aspirations. We are an alloy of the world's most industrious, resourceful and courageous people. As a nation and as a state, we can no longer afford to bottle up that aspiration. It is our lifeblood. We can no longer afford to deny that most basic human aspiration: to prosper and provide a better future for your family.
If we all pull together and use our differences to forge an alloy of great ideas, Oregon and America will once again prosper. And not only will America thrive but we will also build a social and economic model that will provide a framework for the world's aspirations.
Allen Alley is Chairman of the Oregon Republican Party and Co-chair of the Oregon Transformation Project.

Spirit Mountain Mondays
SPIRIT MOUNTAIN MONDAYS
Beginning Monday, October 10th...I'm going to take my show on the road, every Monday for five weeks. "Spirit Mountain Mondays" at Oregon's number one tourist attraction will feature all six hours of my talk shows...Northwest & National. You'll get the chance to play at the Hottest Black Jack Table in the house. You'll get the chance to win thousands of dollars for your favorite charity. And we'll have a lot of fun. Here's how it works
Every week, we're going to give you one chance at a different time each day to win a spot at the table...playing black jack with me for a single hour. We're going to be betting thousands in "charity chips"...no money out of your pocket. Instead, we're going to bet heavy for sixty minutes and at the end of that time...the player with the biggest pile of "charity chips" wins a thousand dollars for his or her named charity. The winner gets a spot at the championship blackjack table on November 7th...at Spirit Mountain. That game features the five winners...and me. The winner of that game (and I guarantee I won't be the winner...even if I end up with more chips, the second place gets the big prize). The big prize...is five thousand dollars for your charity...plus for you, a trip to Las Vegas for two courtesy of spirit mountain casino.
We're providing our players free transportation from a designated spot near Portland to Spirit Mountain and back to your car for you and one guest (your guest gets to come along and join us for dinner but does not have a seat at the blackjack table). We'll give you a huge pile of "charity chips". After 60 minutes of "bet the farm" play...the kind you can only do with "charity chips"...we'll all sit down to a great dinner for an hour. If we can find a designated smoking area outside, you can join me for an after dinner cigar which I will bring and then stay and play with your own money or head home. Everyone who wins a seat at the table in the early rounds, gets dinner at Legends with me...and a free room night.
You're going to have lots of ways to get a seat at the table. Monday through Thursday...I'm going to pick three callers to join me on the air at 12:45, 1:45 or 2:45, a different time each day just to give everyone a chance. . You have to pledge that you'll be there for Spirit Mountain Monday the next week and tell me your charity. I'm going to put each of your names and the charity on my Facebook page at TheLarsLarsonShow...and the one who gets the most "likes" and "shares" by 8am the next day earns a seat at the table. But there's a second way to win. You can email me a pitch for your favorite charity for First Amendment Friday. Include a picture or logo for your charity and your 500 word pitch. I'll post my favorite five them to my Facebook page. The one that gets the most likes and shares by 8am Saturday morning (your friends can help you win)...gets the fifth seat at the table.
Finally, we want a wild card at the championship table...so on November seventh...when I'm doing both my radio shows...the folks who join me in person at Spirit Mountain the night of the big game can put their names in for a drawing. All names in by six pm. We'll draw that at 605pm (you have to be there to win). The wild card joins the four winners & me for a blackjack game with more "charity chips" on the table than you've ever seen. 60 minutes later...the person with the biggest pile of chips wins a trip for two to Vegas and five thousand dollars to their named charity courtesy of Spirit Mountain. And of course we'll have dinner after.
This is a great chance for some good fun. I get a chance to meet a lot of you down at Spirit Mountain for five live radio shows...and you're invited to join me in the audience. We get a chance to play blackjack with big piles of charity chips...and give thousands to charity.

Remember the talented country western singer Kurt Van Meter that did our "Obama Song"...well, he's also done a song in honor of every soldier who's given up a part of his body to defend this great country...and all of us who think we're having a bad day when the boss yells at you. i still want to find a way to do a youtube for the Obama Song but that's less important than the message in kurt's latest song. Check it out!!
