There has been quite a stir in the break room in the Multnomah county courthouse this week. It was over the removal of a thin blue line flag that represents and supports fallen police officers. Sheriff Mike Reese ordered the removal this week because it was offensive to other employees. The reason he stated was that the US National Flag Code forbids alteration of the American flag. Was this move an act of political correctness and betrayal? The issue has made it to facebook and has had quite the impression with such comments as photos of officers and Mike Reese himself wearing altered flags with different meanings.
Today Lars talked with Stephen Thayer a former attorney and prosecutor during the Regan administration about the American Flag and what the rules actually are.
